This article is absolutely bizarre. You are using a girl who died in a massive campaign of ethnic cleansing that literally wiped out half of the global population of an ethnic group to talk about white priviledge?! Just a couple weeks after a shooter went to Highland Park to kill more Jews?
I believe you have some important points to make in this article but to use Jewish decimation and trauma to do so feels incredibly painful. I dont know about all the white washing and spiritual bypass you mentioned, but I believe the intent behind using her diary as a teaching tool was to make something so horribly unfathomable into something accessible (8 million people died because their tribe were perceived as subhuman and here is one child your age so you can understand)
There is a way to express problems in the way we teach history, in our education system, in our capitalistic system, etc without whitewashing Anne Frank or doing what so, so many antisemitic people (on the left and right) do, which is to dismiss the Jewish oppression and experience of global and local racism. This was such a familiar trope I felt nauseous.
I respect your writing a great deal Jessica but this was a punching down that was not necessary and hurtful. I hope that you are able to hear the dissenting voices in your comments and educate yourself.
