There are two separate points, both important. A relationship only works if both people can make it work together. If either or both cannot or will not, it fails.
Stepping outside of agreed-upon boundaries without telling the other is solely the responsibility of the person who does it. They may have reasons that inspire compassion and empathy, but they have still broken an agreement and are fully responsible. Period.
